In 2008 my life went to the dogs. September 11, 2008 was the day this lovely creature officially became my psychiatric service dog(PSD).Walking through life with a service dog at my side has profoundly changed me from the inside out.

It’s been said that Einstein’s theory of relativity came to him in a flash and he spent the rest of his life trying to understand and fully articulate that flash of insight. I feel much the same way. I remember trusting in my gut that a service dog was the right choice for me; but it has taken my conscious mind and the circumstances in my life a whole lot longer to catch up to that understanding.

I hope you’ll join me on my journey as I take a stand for my mental health and wellness and together we can participate in a much larger conversation that seeks to end the stigma surrounding mental illness.

  1. I’m looking forward to following your blog. I write about depression, and even though I don’t have a service pet, I sure do miss my dog and cats! The cats especially brought such peace and calm into my life. I know a service dog does so much more, but the love of an animal is an amazing gift!
